Rockdoc Posted 30 March , 2013 Share Posted 30 March , 2013 On 1st May, 1917, 24th AA Section had both its Guns sited near Kalinova - B Sub-section moved from near Gugunci at 05.00 that morning - to protect a Kite Balloon. Between 11.40 and 16.35, seven aircraft, singly and in groups, were engaged by both Guns and a Halberstadt was "destroyed" in the last attack, falling within 2,000 yards of B Sub-section's position. Is there any way to discover the details of the loss? Keith
apwright Posted 30 March , 2013 Share Posted 30 March , 2013 The French GHQ diary merely adds that the aircraft "fell in flames". Unsere Luftstreitkräfte 1914-18 records the death on that day at Kalinova of Leutnant der Reserve (Max) Freddy Kallir. Born Leipzig 28/9/96, son of Dr Leon & Elise Kallir, according to http://www.geni.com/people/Max-Kallir/6000000019049226713 Adrian
Rockdoc Posted 30 March , 2013 Author Share Posted 30 March , 2013 I'd say that would be the pilot, Adrian. The AA Sections in Salonika rarely brought down an aircraft so it would be a very unlikely coincidence. Does your reference book list his aircraft? Centurion believes that many of the identifications in the War Diaries are incorrect and this might be an opportunity to check this hypothesis. apwright Posted 30 March , 2013 Share Posted 30 March , 2013 Hi Keith, There are no details of the aircraft, I'm afraid. Luftstreitkräfte shows only one name for that date on the Macedonian Front, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was a single-seater. Kallir could have been flying with a Bulgarian observer/pilot, who would not be listed in the German casualty lists. Adrian

Revan Posted 30 March , 2013 Share Posted 30 March , 2013 (edited) Hello Keith, Aerodrome of this Halberstadt (destroyed near Kalinova) was normally at Hudova (?). My source is French archives. I don't know if the true or if it could be a mistake. Edited 30 March , 2013 by Revan

Revan Posted 9 April , 2013 Share Posted 9 April , 2013 (edited) Hello Keith, I think Lieutenant KALLIR was one of the escort (hunter) pilots at KAGOHL I Squadron at Hudova. Greetings. Edited 9 April , 2013 by Revan
