Terry Carter Posted 7 September , 2004 Share Posted 7 September , 2004 Just had a great weekend on the Somme. 32 C at one point. On our return we stopped off at Loos-en-Gohelle Town Hall to see a small museum of artifacts found on the Loos battlefield. Then the young lady who showed us around, Isabelle, took us up to the flat area half way up the slag heaps that overlook the battlefield. here we had a birds-eye view of the 25 Sept, 1915 battlefield. Unfortunately I left my digital camera at home and I have to rely on a friend getting his photos developed before I can post any pictures. Terry p.s managed to find a picture on the net. We drove up the slagheap in front. And stood on the flat area overlooking Loos-en-Gohelle. Pretty usefull observation points for boths side. burlington Posted 7 September , 2004 Share Posted 7 September , 2004 Terry Glad you had a good trip I'm going next week- the forecast seems to indicate a cooler & more changeable week. Aren't these slagheaps the ones featured in the early part of Eyre's 'Somme Harvest'? Martin
Terry Carter Posted 7 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 7 September , 2004 Sorry, do not know. This was my first trip to Loos. Have not read much about the area. All I know is the 2nd Royal Warwicks were there and Pte Vickers won a VC. Cheers Terry
