corisande Posted 28 March , 2013 Share Posted 28 March , 2013 I am currently staying for a few days at Aus in Namibia. I chanced upon the cemetery for German prisoners and their South African guards, and the remains of the pow camp If anyone wants a picture of a particular grave, and happens to read this in the next few days, please PM me There are just 50 odd Germans and same number S Africans, mainly died of flu in 1918
corisande Posted 19 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 19 April , 2013 Back home now. I bought a very good small book in Namibia "Prisoner of War Camp Aus" by Johann Bruwer (published 1985, reprinted 2006 by Namibia Scientific Soc nwg@iway.na to anyone wanting it) It has a full list of both German and South African forces buried there. Also included is this info on other German War Graves in Namibia

corisande Posted 15 May , 2013 Author Share Posted 15 May , 2013 Harry I guess I am a bit addicted to WW1 now. We were in Namibia on holiday, and I had no idea on the background to the War in German South West Africa. Suddenly coming across this old POW camp in Klein Aus was quite unexpected. and gave me the chance to dig a bit into what happened there. The Desert Horses and the ghost town at Kolmanskop were interesting too in that area
