tn.drummond Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 Think this may be a Lancashire Hussar (Rusholm studio). Any confirmation or otherwise would be much appreciated. Thanks Tim
Old Owl Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 I would have thought that Hussars would have worn a Busby type of headgear--but I could be wrong?
Steven Broomfield Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 I'd agree. The Yorkshire Dragoons are a possibility, but the Derbyshire Yeomanry were "heavy" and wore a rose as part of their cap badge, so is that a possibility?
pbrydon Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 He is in the Duke of Lancasters Own Yeomanry P.B.
Old Owl Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 He is in the Duke of Lancasters Own Yeomanry P.B. That makes sense because the DLOY were classed as Dragoons--which makes sense with the helmet
pbrydon Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 and he is wearing the DLOY`s helmet plate and collars. P.B.
Old Owl Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 and he is wearing the DLOY`s helmet plate and collars. P.B. A dead give away then--for those in the loop A great portrait too, for any avid DLOY collector

Old Owl Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 He does have a look of the chap seated on the floor, extreme right--but then again?
FROGSMILE Posted 26 March , 2013 Share Posted 26 March , 2013 I agree, front row far right. No doubt.
tn.drummond Posted 27 March , 2013 Author Share Posted 27 March , 2013 Thank you one and all - my woeful ignorance of matters 'mounted' continues. Light v Heavy, Dragoon v Hussar v Lancer I seem to be able to mangle them all. DLOY it is then and as for P.B's post well, as dear old Hancock used to stay, "stuff me old boots" My education continues... Tim
Yorkshire Dragoon Posted 16 May , 2013 Share Posted 16 May , 2013 As an aside... we were lucky enough to be the guests of the DOLY yesterday in Wigan, they showed us those very helmets, of which they now only have eight!
