kinnethmont Posted 6 September , 2004 Share Posted 6 September , 2004 Pals might be interested to know that Last Post again rang out under the Menin Gate 60 years ago this evening, 6th Sept 1944, on the evening of the town's liberation. The Last Post Association have kept faith with the Fallen ever since. I expect tonight's ceremony had an extra special significance for the buglers and witnesses. Jacky Platteeuw Posted 7 September , 2004 Share Posted 7 September , 2004 Indeed there have been quit a few special days lately. Starting with Sunday when there was the official commemoration of the liberation of Ieper. Yesterday at 12.30hrs there was a special Ceremony in the presence of Canadian WW2 veterans and in the evening the Ceremony was indeed completely dedicated to the town's liberation which took place exactly 60 years ago. The buglars and myself had, after the Ceremony, a good laugh with the story of their pre-war collague who, having been a bit to much on the beer, sounded the Last Post several times that evening. The Germans were still on the Menin Road!!!! Tonight it will be exactly 60 years that the Ceremony was resumed officialy. Jacky
