Killratio Posted 6 September , 2004 Share Posted 6 September , 2004 I was fortunate enough on last weekend to pick up the above Rifle. It was issued to 3 MD (Victoria) and then to 6 MD (Tasmania). My question is, does 12 IB stand for 12th Infantry Battalion AIF or is it 12th Brigade? I am assuming it is "Battalion". It was quite a find, having the original bolt and nosecap to match the receiver serial, along with cutoff provision. thanks in advance for any help. Anzac16 Posted 6 September , 2004 Share Posted 6 September , 2004 I think it would be 12 Battalion but if you wanna be sure ask it here on this forum http://pub176.ezboard.com/fcurioandrelicfirearmsforumfrm4
Killratio Posted 6 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 6 September , 2004 Cheers for that Anzac, I will post a question there. I only collect rendered rifles, so I am hesitant to ask on "gun" forums, I have encountered a few "you b*&^$%&^^&, how could you render a perfectly good rifle??" types and it leaves a nasty taste. The simple answer is that I DON'T, I only buy ones that are already rendered. In fact I had the oportunity to buy a true 1914 MkIII with the volley sights etc..but I refuse to render a working piece of history!! Thanks again, Darryl

Killratio Posted 6 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 6 September , 2004 Love the wire cutters. What is the year of the Lee...17, 18? Is she Australian Coachwood? Looks beautiful. I have a 1917 Mk III* which is Queensland Maple (I think), a 1941 that is A/Coach, the 1916 which is (again, I think) English wood (Walnut?) supplied to us and a US manufactured 1942 or 1943 Savage No4. MkII. I know nothing about the No 4 but a fair bit about the others. You should have seen this 1914 though....wonderful piece. If I could find the time to shoot any more than twice a year I would have got a licence and bought her!!! Thanks again Darryl
