Remembered Today:

Highland badges, Tartan patches...etc

Hello,

Can anyone advise on the means of telling if a Highland cap badge is WW1 or not? I have seen Seaforth badges with 2, 3 and 4 lugs, and tartan patches that are rectangular, square an oval shapes, some stitched to create a fringe, others are not.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Owain.

On some the design changes, such as the Black watch, for whom during WWI they have upper and lower scrolls which were removed prior to WWII, but this might only apply to certain regiments and for a generic means of dating Scottish badges you might struggle. you probably would need to look at each individual regiments badges and how they change over time.
