Derbys Posted 3 March , 2013 Share Posted 3 March , 2013 Hi My great grandfather received a gunshot wound (GSW) to the head on 17th April 1917 at 2nd Battle of Gaza - although this didn't result in him being invalided home - he later transfered to the Rifle Brigade and then the RAMC. This is recorded in his records but would he have received the WW1 'Wound Badge'....? Chris
Hywyn Posted 3 March , 2013 Share Posted 3 March , 2013 If you mean Silver War Badge then yes if he was discharged due to wounds or illness. See http://1914-1918.net/research/index.php/find-your-soldier/silver-war-badge-records/ His Medal Card should indicate whether he received one. Anc'try have the Rolls. What's his name? There is also a wound stripe. Search that term in the Forum for more info. Hywyn

Derbys Posted 3 March , 2013 Author Share Posted 3 March , 2013 Many thanks Hywyn, much appreciated. As he wasn't discharged due to the GSW and as nothing found re SWB on medal card or rolls then I think I can take it that he didn't receive one. Thanks again.
