4thGordons Posted 19 February , 2013 Share Posted 19 February , 2013 An aquaintance just stopped by15 minutes ago and said she had been clearing out cupboards and remembered I was interested in "stuff like this" and would I like it? (not arf! I do not have a picklehaube and now I have something to sit next to my Adrian and Brodie.) The story is it was given to her husband when he was a child about (50 years ago) by his family doctor who had serverd in the AEF. It is obviously in semi-relic state and missing the chin-strap etc but could one of the experts identify precisely what I have? my best guess would be a Model 1915 Prussian Infantryman's Picklehaube but I would be happy to be corrected I do not see any obvious markings on it. Should I think about trying to restore this in any way or should I just seek to preserve it as is. The leather is really very dry The plate is held on by twists of electrical wire how would they originally have been attached? Thanks in advance Chris Pictures follow:
shippingsteel Posted 19 February , 2013 Share Posted 19 February , 2013 I think you are correct with the ID - M1915 Prussian Line Infantry Regiment - see link HERE Cheers, S>S
Khaki Posted 19 February , 2013 Share Posted 19 February , 2013 I think it would be a major restoration project and unless you have experience and considerable skill I would leave it alone. Perhaps replace the chin strap and cockades. I think the helmet plate was held in place by leather wedges through the plate loops. Might be interesting to discover the name and unit of the Doctor. khaki ps The helmet plate is a standard Prussian type. (k)
