andalucia Posted 15 February , 2013 Share Posted 15 February , 2013 Hi All Im hopeless with uniforms. Can anyone tell me if this guy could be wearing the uniform of "Driver/Gunner" of horse with the Royal Field Artillery. I can see his Artillery cap badge, does the uniform give any other clues as to what his job was. Cheers Ant another one
trenchtrotter Posted 15 February , 2013 Share Posted 15 February , 2013 Could be either as no difference however spurs suggest driver. TT And breeches
Ian Riley Posted 15 February , 2013 Share Posted 15 February , 2013 I think the whip, the breeches and the spurs are the indicators. My shot would be 'Driver' RFA. I have the whip and spurs of my grandfather (Driver RFA) Ian

FROGSMILE Posted 15 February , 2013 Share Posted 15 February , 2013 I agree with TT and Ian that the soldier shown is a Driver RA. The photo is a particularly fine image, showing as it does the contrast between the serge of the SD jacket and the finer weave of the 'pantaloons, man's, khaki drab' (i.e. breeches). I enclose some images from the IWM that shows the make up of these nether garments rather well. There appear to have been a variety of patterns issued during the war.
