How the French envisage commemorating the 100th Anniversary

Hi everyone, I thought I would start this thread to post any articles I find in the French Press about how they envisage celebrating the 100th Anniversary. Here are two that I found today.

La CCRA (Commission cultural of the communes of Audricq) are preparing the celebration of the centenary.

the second one

the initiatives for celebrating the centenary are multiplying

There is an official French government committee organising all this. I have their terms of reference, but it is just too long to post, and I am not going to translate it, anyway.

Basically, they are planning quite a shindig.

Every region, etc is being encouraged to hold exhibitions, people will be asked to dig out Grandad's old uniform or whatever else is in the attic.

On an official level, no doubt the politicians will get in on the act.

Thanks Mags,

Very intereresting. There is also a group of persons who want the ashes of Maurice Genevoix, the author of "Ceux de 14" transferred to the Pantheon. I stumbled onto that website when I was (trying to) reading the book: www.ceuxde14.fr

But to get on with the topic, more seriously... I'm involved in a plan to retrace the steps of the Fusiliers Marins of the Ronar'ch Brigade on a five day march in Belgium. just one of the numerous ideas that pop up a little bit everywhere. I'll keep the Pals posted on this.

also, in Limburg they launched the "witte margriet" campaign, looking for testimonies of the war, of occupied Belgium.

In late July I intend to cycle into Belgium via Liege and then follow von Kluck's first army through Belgium and France. I will end my tour on the Marne having called in at Mons and St Quintin first! Ideally, I would like to keep to the original timetable but sadly I'm not sure I'll have time for that,

If anyone can recommend books etc which detail the original route taken, I would be very grateful.

I'd advise starting a new thread in the Battlefield Touring area alongthe lines of "Following von Kluck" or similar. Most of the people who can help probably aren't folowing this thread.

there's a group in belgium, called the Cercle Royal Mars & Mercure, that I'm helping a bit in the organisation, that want to follow the steps of the Fusiliers Marins of Amiral Ronar'ch, "De l'Escaut à l'Yzer" I'm translation their dossier right now, and it's really going to be a big thing!!
