Question about J20501 A.V.Newton

Have just got 14-15 trio and Naval LSGC to AB/RPO Newton . Just on thing bothers me the number changes from the one above to M37819. Why ,and is RPO Regulating petty officer

A partial answer.......ratings with J prefix service numbers are in the deck division, whereas M are those in the miscellaneous category....shipwrights, stewards, artisans, etc. He apparently was able to transfer to one of the speciality ratings from the deck division.

Hope that helps a bit.

RPO is indeed Regulating petty Officer.

That's a sort of Personnel department with the power to put men into detention for stepping out of line.
