Remembered Today:

Service Records

Recommended Posts

At the PRO yesterday I set out to find service records of the four men from my village who enlisted in the REKMR (which ultimately became the 10th Bn Buffs). All four of them survived the war.

I was amazed to find all the records in WO363. Was I lucky or are there some Regiments / Battalions whose service records are more intact than others ?

Aren't those printers at the PRO a disaster !

If my experience is anything to go by you are very fortunate.

Alternatively:

What numbers are you using for the Lottery on Saturday?

Printers not only a disaster but a good money earner for them!

The lottery numbers are confidential. If I win, we'll have the next forum dinner at the Savoy at my expense.

Who knows, I may even have enough money to buy my commission into the Pals !

Michael,

You were extemely lucky!! So many previous soldiers whom I have looked up, including my Great Uncle, have no records at all! It is really disheartening!

I just also wondered why you thought the PRO printers were so bad?! Takes a bit of getting used to, but I have found everyone to be helpful. PRO staff and general public alike!!

Perhaps its my 'damsel in distress' act!!

Alie.
