hmsk212 Posted 1 September , 2004 Share Posted 1 September , 2004 Hi Can anyone help me with this postcard ? I believe it to be the 1/5th King's Liverpool Regiment and that it was taken in Herne Bay, Kent whilst they were stationed in Canterbury in late 1914 early 1915. Confirmation of the Regiment would be most useful, also can anyone tell me what type of rifles are in the background. Steve

Ken Lees Posted 1 September , 2004 Share Posted 1 September , 2004 I would agree that they are 5th King's. The man in the centre is wearing the blackened version of the regular King's cap badge and the only Battalion to wear it like that was the 5th. The man on the left, without a cap badge appears to have a T|5|King's shoulder title. The man on the right, if he is also 5th King's, doesn't have the correct cap badge, nor shoulder title. Hope that helps, Regards, Ken

hmsk212 Posted 10 September , 2004 Author Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Can anyone tell me if these are Lee Metford Rifles in the background as they may make the picture slightly earlier than I first thought.. Steve
Ed Matthews Posted 10 September , 2004 Share Posted 10 September , 2004 Steve They look like they're equipped with the Long Lee Enfield to me (which was first introduced in 1895). However, I understand that many were still being used by training units, TF etc. at the outbreak of the Great War due to shortage of the SMLE. Super postcard by the way!
