bushfighter Posted 25 January , 2013 Share Posted 25 January , 2013 I can only hazard a guess as to why he got the MC but it may have been for infantry operations that two of the Railway Companies (25th & 26th) were involved in near Korogwe in mid-July 1916 (OH pp 317-322). The CO, Lt Col C.W. Wilkinson RE, was awarded a DSO on 13 February 1917 for: conspicuous gallantry in action. He displayed great courage and skill in handling a hastily improvised force under difficult conditions, and was largely instrumental in clearing parties of the enemy from the lines of communication. Wilkinson had four other British officers with him on his operations. Harry
michaeldr Posted 25 January , 2013 Author Share Posted 25 January , 2013 Harry, Many thanks for that information which led me to this account on-line http://gillww1.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/korogwe-1916-2/ regards Michael
bushfighter Posted 25 January , 2013 Share Posted 25 January , 2013 Michael Greetings Deep inside my LOYAL NORTH LANCASHIRES IN EAST AFRICA thread: are my own photographs of the ground that Wilkinson's men fought over, with descriptions. Maybe a search for KOROGWE could throw the sequence up. Harry

Guest thedweeb Posted 29 September , 2013 Share Posted 29 September , 2013 Michael, were you able to find any more about C R Webb's MC? He was my grandfather and I've been wondering about this for a while. Thanks, Dan.
michaeldr Posted 30 September , 2013 Author Share Posted 30 September , 2013 Dan, Thank you for your enquiry I'm afraid that I have not got any further with his MC Perhaps I should explain that my position here has been that of a middle-man C R Webb's infant daughter, Felicity Ann, is buried in Haifa's old Protestant cemetery and I had two tasks; to provide a photograph of the grave for a Webb family member in the UK, and information for a local student who was building a web-site around the cemetery. If you think that I can be of further help to you on this then please feel free to contact me by a Personal Message best regards Michael
