dickrichards Posted 20 January , 2013 Share Posted 20 January , 2013 I discovered the attached photograph in an album of a relatives photographs. Unfortunately, we have not been able to identify the individuals although they are likely to be of a couple from Cornwall. Can anyone help with the regiment or any other clues? Thanks for your help! Steven Broomfield Posted 20 January , 2013 Share Posted 20 January , 2013 Looking at Reg Cox's book on GW badges, I'd start with 23rd Canadian (The Montreal Battalion),

dickrichards Posted 20 January , 2013 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2013 Thanks - what a helpful lot you are! The photograph is on a post card with the photographers name of "Opie Ltd, Redruth & Branches" Would it be likely that the 23 (Montreal) Infantry were in the UK and this soldier came to Cornwall to see relatives or could a resident Cornishman have joined a Canadian regiment? What do you think?
Steven Broomfield Posted 20 January , 2013 Share Posted 20 January , 2013 They were in the UK, but didn't proceed to France & Belgium, so probably visiting family. Might have been local-born and emigrated before the war.
dickrichards Posted 20 January , 2013 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2013 Thanks Steven, yes, many Cornishmen emigrated towards the end of the 19th century so was most likely visiting family.
