Dolphin Posted 31 August , 2004 Share Posted 31 August , 2004 Mark This doesn't help you very much, but Lt R Sterling's DFC award is listed in RAF Communiqué No 29, covering the period 14-20 October 1918. A 'Lt Sterling' (no initial) was the observer in RE8 C2427 of No 6 Sqn RAF, flown by Lt Owens, when it was shot up, damaged and forced to return to its aerodrome on 5 September. The same crew were in RE8 C2718 when it was so damaged in combat with an enemy aircraft that it crashed on 19 September. This might or, on the other hand, might not, be your man. After the 19 September incident a victory was credited to Uffz Paul Hüttenrauch of Jasta 7; it was probably the fifth of his eventual eight victories.
