4thGordons Posted 15 January , 2013 Share Posted 15 January , 2013 I hope you do not mind - I had a go at repairing it a bit (and recreating his leg). A close scan of the cap badge might help the experts. The uniforms look to me to be standard (except pocket shape)with no obvious markings. The gentleman standing with the Sam Browne belt on appears as though he might be wearing leather shin-protectors often worn in mounted roles and Jodphurs rather than trousers so that would seem consistent with involvement with horses . I see no badges of rank so perhaps the Sam Browne indicates Regimental Police? or a Warrant Officer? or?

Blackblue Posted 15 January , 2013 Share Posted 15 January , 2013 No medals ribbons indicating he probably didn't serve in a theatre of war during the Great War. Rgds Tim D
Steven Broomfield Posted 15 January , 2013 Share Posted 15 January , 2013 Would a soldier in the Irish Army in the 20's wear British medal ribbons?

museumtom Posted 15 January , 2013 Share Posted 15 January , 2013 To be honest lads, I don't know if they wore WW1 medals ribbons, I would not think so though. Barley; If you write to the Officer I.C., Records Cathal Brugha Barracks, Rathmines, Dublin, and send paperwork that showss you are his son they will give you his records. Cheers. Blackblue Posted 16 January , 2013 Share Posted 16 January , 2013 Now I can'd find a photo of a single man wearing medal ribbons! In hindsight wearing them in the INA would probably not have been that well received!
