This is a picture of Harry George native of Bell Lane Frome Somerset , on his horse Best Mate. Harry was born 1870 and died 13.8.1927,and married Harriet Veasey. His family think the picture was taken in France ,and copied from a postcard? Which they still hold, and has writing to faint to read with WS, or NS Yeomanry.(North Somerset Yeomanry)

My query is in regard to the 4 chevrons’ on his lower sleeve (if they reproduce clear enough for the reader to see) are they for 4 years service in France?

They are for between 3 and 4 years overseas service, since the chevrons were issued at the start of the period of service (Introduced from early 1918, and backdated).

Steve.
