HMSWILDFIRE Posted 31 December , 2012 Share Posted 31 December , 2012 Hi, Could anyone help identify the cap badge for this soldier please. He is belied to be a distant relative AlfredJohn Gower who enlisted in Kent in November 1915. I have looked at the MIC cards for Gower but all seem to be 1915 postings so not him. I am now wondering if it is a different man but cannot identify the badge. Any help appreciated.
Staffsyeoman Posted 31 December , 2012 Share Posted 31 December , 2012 To get the ball rolling, I think it is a wartime economy (non-voided) Royal Engineers cap badge. (This means the metal in the centre around the GVR cypher) A pity we can't see the slip over shoulder titles.
HMSWILDFIRE Posted 31 December , 2012 Author Share Posted 31 December , 2012 Phil, Thanks very much for this, Engineers would make sense as I believe he was a brick layer by trade the lack of voiding through me as I was looking for badges without a void and did not know of the economy version. The crown looked a bit odd though. cheers, Keith
