You can see the small hair spring which serves the purpose you describe. The small brass piece holds back the lever until the point of release. The second pin sits below the striker to prevent it's movement. If I remember correctly from seeing an original complete Stokes box the fuses and detonators are in the lid or a seperate compartment and as with Mills bombs they are inserted before use.
