Have a look at the link below, pages 108 onwards - it's a mounting for the Vickers gun that allows it to traverse on the muzzle (allowing maximum coverage of field of fire with minimum of exposure of the gun). The original concept was designed by Sergeant Longfield, that was later adapted and adopted by the Army as the "Mounting, Trench, MG, Mk I", modified into the MkI* and MkII, and briefly readopted for use in WW2: http://www.cgsc.edu/carl/docrepository/machinegunnotesbritishpt1.pdf Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
