seaforth78 Posted 19 December , 2012 Share Posted 19 December , 2012 Hello, I had recently acquired the sword of 2/Lt Oliver Baldwin (son of the Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin and later 2nd Earl) Irish Guards and the sword is complete with Sam Browne Scabbard and sword case with his intials ORB. My question is, were Guards officers who were commisioned for the war required to purchase full dress as well? This sword does not come with the full dress metal scabbard as would be indicative if had to appear in full dress in London. However, I also have the sword of the Hon. Victor Cochrane-Bailie MC, Scots Guards who was commisioned in 1915 with dress scabbard, so I was wondering if just other dress scabbard in the former was missing and lost or were wartime officers exempt from purchasing full dress?
