18th Brigade war diary

Hello all

I am currently looking into one of my wifes ancesters who we believe served with the RFA

We believe it to be this chap:

Name:George Kerton

Birth Place:Weston-Super-MareDeath

Date:21 Mar 1918

Death Location:France & Flanders

Enlistment Location:Weston-Super-Mare, Som.

Rank:Sergeant

Regiment:Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Field Artillery

Number:25250

Type of Casualty:Killed in action

Theatre of War:Western European Theatre

A porter, he enlisted in July 1902, aged 18 yrs 1 mnth, regular soldier 59th Battery, 18th Brigade RFA - in India before the war, promoted during war from Gunner to Serjeant

Father Alfred, mother Jane, elder brother Edward, younger brother Henry, sisters Ellen, Charlotte, Emily. Address Church St, Banwell

The story in the family is that George was hit by a sniper through the head. I have looked at ancestry and there are records still surviving for him and he seems to have had the Meritorious Service Medal along with the 14-trio, but I can't seem to find any mention of how he died.

Does any kind soul out there have access to the war diary for the time he was shot and is able to have a look and see if it mentions him and how he died?

Many thanks in advance

Rich

Photo we believe to be George, no cap badge though.

I was just wondering if your typing error was a Freudian slip (Weston-Super-MareDeath)

Anyway, joking apart, the good news is that some of the Diaries are available here

http://data4.collect..._e.html&r=8&f=G

BUT, it appears, only up to July 1917.

If you have a mooch around the site the others may be there, I dont know.

At least you can follow his career up to a point,

EDIT. heres the home page http://www.canadiangreatwarproject.com/warDiaryLac/wdLacP31.asp

I dont think theres any more

Regards,

Graeme
