Australian Depot Cape Town

Good afternoon (my time) everyone.

Does anyone know anything about or heard of the "Australian Depot, Cape Town" or the "AIF Depot, Cape Town"?

I am aware that this establishment existed as I have come across a number of references in the personal fiels of the members of the AIF that I have examined and from context it is possible that it was located in or near to Cape Castle.

I haven't been able to locate any sources in either the AWM or the National Archives and have managed to locate one single newspaper reference in the National Library's holdings.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting request - got my curiosity peaked!

Seems that Lieut Robert Morris BEVERIDGE was sent to Cape Town in April 1917 to "open and assume command of the AIF Depot, The Castle, Cape Town"

His service record:

Captain Robert Mowbray Winston THIRKELL took over from him in 1919
