Guest Posted 20 November , 2012 Share Posted 20 November , 2012 I suppose this question goes for world war 2 as well as world war 1. Did the German servicemen still get campaign medals after the 2 world wars, even though the country was in such a bad state. Kevin.
Khaki Posted 20 November , 2012 Share Posted 20 November , 2012 Hi Kevin, There were no official WW1 German veterans medals until 1935 when under the 3rd Reich the "Frontkampfer" medal was issued, it is more commonly known as the "Hindenburg Cross". German medals post WW1 (during the Weimar Republic period) were issued by the many veterans organisations and the so called Hindenburg Cross was designed to replace them. The wearing of the unofficial medals was banned under the Hitler administration. khaki
Guest Posted 20 November , 2012 Share Posted 20 November , 2012 Thanks Khaki, I don't know much about German campaign medals, but my grandfather was awarded the WW1 trio for service in the RN. Kevin.
