Mark Hone Posted 25 August , 2004 Share Posted 25 August , 2004 I called in briefly at Wimereux on my 'McCrae Pilgrimage'. The cemetery was like a building site. Most of the grass had been removed, along with several headstones. Is it perhaps a CWGC pre-emptive renovation prior to the 90th anniversary of 'In Flanders Fields'? Ken Lees Posted 25 August , 2004 Share Posted 25 August , 2004 It was like that almost a year ago when I was there! Piles of headstones lying around and lots of soil. Ken
Myrtle Posted 25 August , 2004 Share Posted 25 August , 2004 I posted an enquiry on the 26th October 2002 asking if anyone knew what was happening at Wimereux. There were also grave stones lying around at that time. Whatever is being done seems to be taking a long time.
Terry Denham Posted 27 August , 2004 Share Posted 27 August , 2004 I have asked CWGC what is currently happening at Wimereux and when is it expected to be finished. The work is a major renovation job with relevelling and horticultural works planned. The Works Department are only just finishing their work and the Horticultural Department is starting work now. The task has been slowed down by the need to maintain a reasonable access at all times. Depending on weather conditions, the work is expected to be finished by Spring 2005.
