daggers Posted 15 November , 2012 Share Posted 15 November , 2012 I had read nothing by this well-known author but have been hugely impressed by his long novel about the experiences of two Australian sisters, nurses, who serve in the Dardanelles and in France. Powerfully written, the book describes their experiences in a torpedoed troopship, in casualty clearing stations and in brief excursions on leave. There is of course plenty of romantic interest along with graphic accounts of life just behind the lines. There are plenty of professional reviews online. Published by Sceptre, ISBN 978 0 340 95187 3, £18.99. D
archangel9 Posted 15 November , 2012 Share Posted 15 November , 2012 I read Schindler's Ark many years before there was a Schindler's List and was very impressed by his writing. Haven't read anything by him since so will keep a look out for 'Daughters of Mars'. Cheers John
Tom Morgan Posted 15 November , 2012 Share Posted 15 November , 2012 If you can find a copy, try Gossip from the Forest, Keneally's 1975 novel about the signing of the armistice. Brilliant stuff. Tom

Dolphin Posted 15 November , 2012 Share Posted 15 November , 2012 His American Civil War novel Confederates is well worth reading. I confess to having given up trying to get through some of his other stuff. Gareth
