Remembered Today:

Royal Fusilier insignia expertise please

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've started to look into the 17th Royal Fusiliers and just wondered if any RFus uniform/insignia enthusiasts out there could please pass on any details of what was worn by this Bn - I know they wore the standard RF (City of London) cap badge, but what sort of shoulder titles did they wear, what formation insignia, helmet markings, company badges?

Appreciate any guidance and if possible/available any pictures of such insignia

Many thanks and best wishes

Jim

The only battalion identification I know of for the 17th was a red grenade shape which was worn by all ranks on the back of the jacket 2" below the collar. This was adopted in August 1915 and had been discontinued by December 1916. The source of this information is the Uniform Questionnaires collected from units by the IWM in 1919-20 and now held in the museum's Department of Printed Books.
