Khaki Posted 3 November , 2012 Share Posted 3 November , 2012 Some officers jackets that I have seen have a sown same material waist faux 'belt' others don't, what's the difference? knowing may save me some money. khaki
wainfleet Posted 4 November , 2012 Share Posted 4 November , 2012 No difference - some just did, and some just didn't. Most have a ticket pocket in the waist, but not all. Shoulder rank jackets lacking these features and made from barathea instead of the typical whipcord can be very difficult to date.
Khaki Posted 4 November , 2012 Author Share Posted 4 November , 2012 Thanks Wainfleet, I was beginning to think that officers jacket's were an unexplored 'territory'. I guess that, as they were tailored there is more variation etc. regards khaki
FROGSMILE Posted 4 November , 2012 Share Posted 4 November , 2012 The pattern with an inset waist panel was as per the original, pre-war design, and used more cloth. Later designs omitting the panel were simpler and cheaper. Individual regiments decided which they preferred. The simplified version was later formalised in WW2, specifically to save cloth. Khaki Posted 5 November , 2012 Author Share Posted 5 November , 2012 Thanks Frogsmile, I didn't realize, how limited the information was until I started to look for it. regards khaki
