stevem49 Posted 30 October , 2012 Share Posted 30 October , 2012 Amazing - Moakes is mentioned as being killed. Lee also mentioned and looks like only man killed that day. If you pm me your email, I will copy and send entries to your. SteveM (war diaries courtesy of Mike Briggs)
mikebriggs Posted 31 October , 2012 Share Posted 31 October , 2012 Paul I'm sure you know, but if not, the Service Records for both men are available via Ancestry. Although Lee is Commemorated on Ypres Memorial he was most likely buried behind the firing line in a 'soldiers cemetry' near Sanctuary Wood, Maple Copse or Armagh Wood et al. His grave would have been subsequently lost after the War. This is borne out by the fact his personal effects were returned to the family. cheersMike
BRONNO Posted 31 October , 2012 Share Posted 31 October , 2012 Local newspaper states Moakes was wounded in April 1915 and was then serving with "D" Company, Martyn (Mansfield Company), Lee was with "C" Company, (Sutton in Ashfield) A.C. Clarke. BRONNO.
