I have just been asked to make my Christmas wish list by my wife and i am trying to remember the title of a book about the work of the R.A.M.C,

I think it was something like "The Long Carry".

If anyone could help with this it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Scott.

Dunham F, Haigh RH, Turner PW (Eds). "The Long Carry. The journal of stretcher bearer Frank Dunham 1916-1918."

London, Pergamon Press, 1970

A good book. Dunham served in the 7th Battalion, London Regiment. Its not in print but probably obtainable from 2nd hand book dealers etc. You could try Turner Donovan or Tim Harper.

regards, Steve

Its a very useful account of a stretcher bearer. Dunham was transferred to the 1/19th London Regiment and served with them up to the Armistice after the 1/7th were disbanded at the end of January 1918.

I've made some comments on the book in this thread (US Medical Officers), in this thread (stretcher bearers) and this one (Harry's War).
