Matt Dixon Posted 23 August , 2004 Share Posted 23 August , 2004 is it sometimes known as the Black Watch Memorial?
Terry Denham Posted 23 August , 2004 Share Posted 23 August , 2004 The Basra Memorial has always been officially so called (not the Basra War Memorial). It bears the names of dozens of British and Indian Army regiments and their casualties and so there seems to be no reason why it would be so nicknamed. Perhaps someone knows otherwise. Matt Dixon Posted 23 August , 2004 Author Share Posted 23 August , 2004 The only reason I ask, is that a mate is serving out there and I asked if he was able could he get the pics I wanted from the memorial. He sent me an email to say he had found it, and said that everyone out there referred to it as "The Black Watch Memorial". I just wondered if he had the right one. Greenwoodman Posted 24 August , 2004 Share Posted 24 August , 2004 Might be a very modern nickname for the memorial - if I remember right, the Black Watch were one of the first regiments to visit the memorial from Basra, and they took the press with them!!! It was spread all over the papers.
