WW1 Cap-OK?

Is this one OK? I was going to bid but the date looked a little late for the model of Cap. Was the 1905 pattern produced after the introduction of the soft cap?

Hope you did not bid. IMHO it is wrong!

Very much a postwar cap which someone paid quite a bit for.

The markings are also of a fantasy type. That "Collett" makers mark is commonly seen on articles stamped to deceive.

Although I think the seller in this case was ignorant of the fact of his cap being less than genuine.

I've never found anything that actually stated that the stiff cap production should stop when the soft cap was introduced but I believe this is the case.

I'm sure it did Joe. I have a 1921 dated soft cap belonging to Grenadier Guardsman which has wire added to stiffen it.

I also have a friend who bought a similar one recently which, besides the wire, had the strengthening stitching removed around the band to make it look smarter!
