tvn Posted 4 October , 2012 Share Posted 4 October , 2012 September 29-30, 2012 on the island of Saaremaa (Osel) near the village Orisaare "Saaremaa Sõjavara Selts", military history club "Front Line" and "The Estonian military history club" held the first International Festival of the First World War, "Albion" dedicated to the 95 th anniversary of the battles for Moonzund. Operation "Albion" (September 29 - October 20, 1917) - combined operation of German Navy and the Army and during the First World War on the mastery Moonsund islands in the Baltic Sea. Operation Albion was the German land and naval operation in September–October 1917 to invade and occupy the Estonian islands of Saaremaa (Ösel), Hiiumaa (Dagö) and Muhu(Moon), then part of the Russian Republic. The land campaign opened with landings at Tagga Bay (Tagalaht), Saaremaa, on 11 October 1917, after extensive naval activity to clearmines and subdue coastal artillery batteries, and the island was secured by 16 October.
