sutcliffe trail Posted 1 October , 2012 Share Posted 1 October , 2012 Trying to find my grandfather's regiment when he joined up from Milnrow, Lancashire. Is it a Lancashire Fusiliers badge? He was a POW later and by then we think in the 227 MGC. This photo has a fuzzy image of a cap badge. Maybe someone will recognise it even so? IPT Posted 1 October , 2012 Share Posted 1 October , 2012 Which fits with his MIC which shows 8826 MGC and 10075 Royal Fusiliers. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?htx=View&r=5538&dbid=1262&iid=30850_A001508-02397&fn=Leonard&ln=Sutcliffe&st=r&ssrc=&pid=4501508
sutcliffe trail Posted 2 October , 2012 Author Share Posted 2 October , 2012 Thank you both very much. It all looks so simple now. This is definitely my grandfather Leonard Sutcliffe. I had tried the MIC originally but must have had 'Lancashire' in my head as a filter so mustn't have registered this entry as a possibility for him. The MGC number tallies with addresses on cards we have recently rooted out which were sent to him at Minden POW camp. I outlined some of this information in my post in the POW forum which I would have linked to this one if I was more familiar with the system on the Forum generally! So it all starts coming together and I can set about discovering more of the story of his war.
