Len S Posted 29 September , 2012 Share Posted 29 September , 2012 I acquired this Berthier carbine at a local gun show. It's an unusual variant meant for use by the cuirassiers of the French cavalry. The stock doesn't have a comb and it's equipped with a leather buttplate rather than a steel one. Few were made and even fewer were spared the transformation into Mle 1892's during WWI in which these distinctive features were lost. All serial numbers are matching and the bore is in excellent shape. Here are some pics, Len
4thGordons Posted 29 September , 2012 Share Posted 29 September , 2012 That is a REALLY nice example. I do not specialize in French weapons but have tried to build up a basic cross section of WWI small arms over the past 20 years and have never seen one of these for sale. I have an 1892 carbine, a 1907/15 rifle, a M1916 rifle and carbine but have searched in vain for a tiralleur rifle or one of these. thank you for posting Chris
