Bert Heyvaert Posted 21 August , 2004 Share Posted 21 August , 2004 Hello, I am doing research on memorial parks on the Western Front, especially about the way they are presented to the public. So far, I haven't found much information.. The things I am interested in, is how the trench systems are preserved, what information is put up, what kind of memorials are put up and especially why it has been done in that particular way. For instance, the trenches in Newfoundland memorial park are all left to natural decay, whilst most of the accessible trenches at Vimy Ridge are restored in concrete. Also on both sites most of the battlefield is not accessible, and I wondered if this has always been the case. The sites I am looking at are: - Dodengang, Diksmuide - Newfoundland Memorial Park, Beaumomt-Hamel - Vimy Ridge, Vimy - Sheffield memorial park, Serre Any information on this, or suggestions where I could find out more, would be very welcome. Thanks, Bert.
