Raster Scanning Posted 21 August , 2004 Share Posted 21 August , 2004 I have no information about this picture. There are French soldiers and civilians as well as some British soldiers. Are the guns French or British? Is this a picture taken in a newly liberated town after the armistice? Any ideas gratefully received. Cheers. John. Greg Posted 21 August , 2004 Share Posted 21 August , 2004 I am pretty sure the guns are French. Model 1877 155.They are of a very old pattern since they have no recoil systems. The French went through an artillery shortage mid war 1915-16 I think. Not sure whether they retained any older guns later. Seem to recollect that most old guns were being replaced 1917-18. Raster Scanning Posted 22 August , 2004 Author Share Posted 22 August , 2004 Thanks Greg. It looks to me like 1918 celebrations. Love to know where it is. Cheers. John
