Remembered Today:

Unidentified soldier's grave

I am putting together material for an exhibition relating to my local War Memorial.

I wanted to use an illustration of a typical unidentified soldier's grave. Looking through my collection of photographs I realise that, in fact, I have no suitable photograph to use. Does any kind soul out there have a photograph which I could use to illustrate a typical example of such a grave?

How about this one?

I have reduced it considerably to attach it to this post but hopefully not too much of the quality will have been lost.

I've occasionally come across CWGC (WW2) graves that read "A Victim of the 1939-45 War - Known unto God". This implies that it is unknown which side (if any), or which service the person interred beneath was from (if that person was even a serviceman - could even be a civilian).

Does anyone know if there exists any similar inscriptions for WW1? If so, wouldn't this be a better photo for a war memorials project (considering that on many memorials, the inscribed names aren't only of soldiers). (I've got a photo of "A Sailor of the Great War - Known Unto God" if that's any use alongside the "soldier" photo.)

Dave.
