Artillery Formation

Please excuse my lack of knowledge on something which sounds very basic, but what was "artillery formation", and how did it differ from any other formation?

don't worry about it. It only took me about 3 years to use it.

Search term, space site:1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums

for example search Black Watch, or artillery formation followed by a space then site:1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums

Black Watch site:1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums

This puzzled me for a long time when I first came accross. And I still have a question.

Was the artillery formation of 1914 the same as that of, say 1916 or 1918? Or was it modified like many other aspects of BEF operation?
