Hi,

I've been sent a wonderful picture of a gentlman in uniform. I believe he is my great uncle Arthur who was with the 5 Signals Company Royal Engineers. He was a Sergeant and that is the only thing i recognise on the photo (the stripes). The picture quality is not too great, but it's all I have. Can anyone confirm that this uniform is fitting for his station and regiment?

Thank you

I can't help but you may be able to answer the question by comparing cap badges.

Here's a WW1 R.E. cap badge:

( you might want to consider posting this again on Uniforms and Cap Badges Forum)

Looks like RE Signal section - RE cap badge and blue and white armband.

I'd agree - RE cap badge, sergeant's stripes and white over blue brassard: Signals. QED.

Hi all,

I'm sorry I should have been more informative. His name was Arthur James Hankins b1886 - 1961. I think he was with the 2nd Division and yes he was Signals as per my first post. I also believe he was a Company Quarter Master Sergeant.

First went to France 17.08.14? Do you mean him in particular or the 2nd Div? I can't find his service record so I don't have much info.

Edit: Sorry I see that you got the information from the medal card.

Thanks everyone, it's wonderful :-)
