Any idea as to whether a Lieutenant in the 1st Canadian Machine Gun Company would have worn a different cap badge than the Other Ranks? Thanks.

Yes, he would have worn it in cast dark bronze with blades instead of die struck brass/gilding metal with copper lugs.
