Hello all,

Could you tell me why this attending Officer training unit wears a number on his cap, in place of a (his ex) regimental cap badge or a specific cap badge.

This photo is from 1918.post-6708-0-17054100-1347786043_thumb.jp

Many thanks.

Hi,

Its the Number of the officer cadet battalion he was posted to.

There are several variation Number 1 wore a Brass 1 Number 5 a Cloth 5 Number 10 a cloth X roman numeral, Number 7 had VII over CB.

I have a photo of a squad from Number 9 OCB where they are wearing both a Brass 9 and their own Regimental badge.
