I'm hanging on to a mortar in Melaka, Malaysia, that just has GREAT WAR inscribed onto a plate.

Please can the weapon be identified.

It is a German Heavy Flugelminenwerfer 24 cm. It was a smoothbore and fired a vaned projectile similar to the British and French 'Flying Pigs' I can't imagine how or why it reached Malaya! - SW

Indeed it started out as a KuK copy of the French mortar that fired the flying pig and was also manufactured in Germany. I would suspect soon after the end of the war that someone asked for a trophy gun to display at some memorial in Malaya and it was allocated from the substantial stocks of captured weapons and shipped out.
