PhilB Posted 18 August , 2004 Share Posted 18 August , 2004 I have had the experience of wearing a wet greatcoat, but the item below (from the Welsh Guards history) still came as a surprise to me. Phil B
Tim Godden Posted 1 September , 2004 Share Posted 1 September , 2004 Hi There, I can believe it. I was one of the Khaki Chums who commemorated the Christmas Truce a few years ago (nicknamed Alf in the photos on Tom Morgan's website because apparently I look like the Bairnsfather character!) and when I returned home with my greatcoat on I took it off and it stood on its own. Two friends of mine came to see me and could both just lift it on their own as it was so caked in mud and water and all manner of other things too. This is, of course, the main reason, I would imagine, that so many were cut down. All the best, Tim 'Alf'
