jendave Posted 30 July , 2012 Share Posted 30 July , 2012 Hello everyone just wondered if someone would know which regiment this soldier belonged to. The family think he served in the Blackwatch in WW1. His name was Joseph Stacey born 1894 Sheffield. Unfortunately I have been unable to locate his service record. Hope his cap badge is visable! Any help will be appreciated. Regards Jenny

Steven Broomfield Posted 30 July , 2012 Share Posted 30 July , 2012 There's nothing yet to say he didn't serve in the Black Watch. If someone checks his records, it's possible he transferred at some point, so don't give up hope!
roughdiamond Posted 30 July , 2012 Share Posted 30 July , 2012 5 x MIC's for Joseph Stacey in the Artillery http://www.nationala...pe=1=* one for a Sgt J Stacey http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=5538062&queryType=1&resultcount=68 and only one in the Royal Highlanders (he was also Tank Corps) http://www.nationala...1&resultcount=1 this man survived as did 5 of the 6 who served with the Artillery, only 6345 Gunner Joseph Stacey RFA is listed as Killed on the CWGC site. jendave Posted 31 July , 2012 Author Share Posted 31 July , 2012 Excuse my ignorance, but is the Tank Corp part of the Royal Artillery or is this a different regiment altogether? If so then the Medal card which has both regiments seems the most likely one. Just a pity we can't find his service record. regards Jenny
Rob B Posted 31 July , 2012 Share Posted 31 July , 2012 No Jenny the Tank Corps is not a part of the Royal Artillery. Although there is nothing to have stopped him subject to suitability from joining the Tank Corps from the RA, as the Tank Corps was founded in the later part of the War.
