John(txic) Posted 28 July , 2012 Share Posted 28 July , 2012 I am researching a man who may be on Dudley's War Memorial. I have found AB J. O. Toole on this Medal Roll on Ancestry. The file reference is ADM 171/132. Can anyone assist with interpretation? Under the column "How issued or disposed of" is noted "F". In the "Remarks" colum, there is "R". (I always thought this meant deserted when set against a man's name in the ship's log?). Thanks.
horatio2 Posted 28 July , 2012 Share Posted 28 July , 2012 Deserted "R" and medals forfeited "F" in consequence.
Jonathan Saunders Posted 28 July , 2012 Share Posted 28 July , 2012 Just a small addition incase someone can correct me but i always thought the "R" was an abbreviation of "Ran" (in turn I presume this is the equivilent Naval term for "deserted"). John(txic) Posted 28 July , 2012 Author Share Posted 28 July , 2012 Thanks. Interestingly, of the 25 men on the page, 4 of them ran. Was this usual for the RFA?
