Remembered Today:

UK Naval Medal & Award Rolls 1793-1972

I am researching a man who may be on Dudley's War Memorial.

I have found AB J. O. Toole on this Medal Roll on Ancestry. The file reference is ADM 171/132.

Can anyone assist with interpretation? Under the column "How issued or disposed of" is noted "F". In the "Remarks" colum, there is "R". (I always thought this meant deserted when set against a man's name in the ship's log?).

Thanks.

Just a small addition incase someone can correct me but i always thought the "R" was an abbreviation of "Ran" (in turn I presume this is the equivilent Naval term for "deserted").

Thanks.

Interestingly, of the 25 men on the page, 4 of them ran. Was this usual for the RFA?
