Eclipse Class 2nd class Cruiser of 56000 tons, launched April 1895, armed 11 x 6 inch, 8 x 12 pounder guns, 3 x 18 inch TT.

Served 12 Cruiser Sq 1914-1915, Med 1915 ( Gallipoli) and late 1915 to armistice in E Africa,

Many thanks for the info Malcolm. Just makes me wonder how an infantry man, captured in 1914, managed to obtain this type of postcard. Were these sort of postcards a common issue featuring a variety of vessels?

Chris,

I have no idea how an infantryman POW would get a card unless post-war. I have seen postcards at collectors fairs which occasionally have WW1 ones but with big prices.

Maybe, just maybe, he had a friend serving on Talbot at some stage of the war?

Another one of them questions that should have been asked whilst certain members of the family were alive, and we are all guilty of that. Time and tide wait for no man. :blink:
