auchonvillerssomme Posted 22 July , 2012 Share Posted 22 July , 2012 Does anyone have a specific date when Royal Army Medical Corps badge motto changed to 'In Arduis Fidelis'? Mick
Old Owl Posted 22 July , 2012 Share Posted 22 July , 2012 Hi Mick, According to my little book on badges, depicting the RAMC badge with motto: "In Arduis Fidelis", it quotes: "The Royal Army Medical Corps was formed in 1898 by amalgamating the Medical Staff(officers) and Medical Staff Corps(men). Army Order 93 of 1898, and was granted the motto appearing on the scroll. This badge was approved in May, 1902. I think that this answers your question? auchonvillerssomme Posted 22 July , 2012 Author Share Posted 22 July , 2012 it doesn't I'm afraid. The motto on the bottom of the badge changed from Royal Army Medical Corps to 'In Arduis Fidelis' well after that date, I suspect at the same time as the bottom scroll changed to silver. Old Owl Posted 22 July , 2012 Share Posted 22 July , 2012 Ok, I rather missed your specific point here!! Upon checking further I think your answer is: "--but scroll inscribed 'In Arduis Fidelis'. The scroll in white metal, remainder in gilding metal. Sealed 22nd September, 1950." I think this nails it? Robert
